This will be last time in 2015 that Peter will be offering this course. There are still a few spaces available but it will go ahead as planned.

Mindful awareness means paying attention to the experiences of the present moment: with openness and curiosity to welcome things as they are. It invites us to stop, breathe, observe, and connect with our inner experience. Mindfulness can be learned by anyone, regardless of age or background.

This course lays the foundation to mindful living through brief talks, sensory awareness practice, simple yoga movements (done seated, standing, or lying down), and suggested at-home practice. For the duration of the course participants are encouraged to meditate 5 to 15 minutes every day.

Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life, a way of taking charge of your life, a way of doing something for yourself that no one else can do for you — consciously and systematically working with your own stress, pain, illness, and the challenges and demands of everyday life. In contrast, you’ve probably encountered moments of “mindlessness” — a loss of awareness resulting in forgetfulness, separation from self, and a sense of living mechanically. Restoring within yourself a balanced sense of health and well-being requires increased awareness of all aspects of self, including body and mind, heart and soul.

The activities above draw on Zen and Vipassana meditation practices as well as the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) work pioneered by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD. However, this short course is not a substitute for the standard eight-session MBSR program.
